Living with Parkinson’s Disease

We had a great day with one of our favorite out-of-town patients. He has Parkinson’s Disease and is making great strides with our treatments. He is doing exceedingly well in all aspects, including his golf game. He is working too hard and we talked about the importance of stress management and life balance. With God’s grace, he will cut back on the career and increase the time doing fun stuff. We know from engineering and the Army that complex systems do best when they work at 85% capacity. Not more than 85%, but 85% or less. That means the human brain, the most complex machine in the universe, does best when it works at 85% or less capacity. That does not mean 85% of total capacity, but 85% of work capacity. So, if we need to sleep 8 hrs a day and we need to work 8 hrs a day, and we need to do activities of daily living a day…..then we will all do our best if we spend no more than (0.85 x 8 = 6.8) 6.8 hours actually working a day. That means a break for lunch and two short coffee breaks. Research has shown that prolonged sitting is detrimental to mental function. You should get up and walk around every hour or use a standing desk. Anyway, great success so far with Parkinson’s using our stack the hack method.
